10 Must Have Summer Items

Warm weather is right around the corner, which means it's time to update your Summer space. And you don't have to restyle your whole house or outdoor space. There are so many ways to add color and warm weather vibes to your home, and Summer is the perfect time to do it. Start with small details like replacing your center pieces with fresh flowers, change neutral wall art for colorful graphic pieces, and pile on the light colored pillows! Check out our top ten Summer must have items below.

1. Ottoman: This is perfect if you're going for that boho or desert chic look. Try it in your living room, or under a covered patio to spice up your outdoor party seating.

2. Morning coffee tastes so much better outside. This three piece set its the perfect size (and price!) for any space.

3. Create an organic inspired space with natural finishes. Mix light colored woods with a dark contrast with this chair + matching ottoman.

4. Comfy, cool + chic. Finally, outdoor furniture that matches your personality.

5. This chair is the perfect color to bring in that Summer feel to your space. It's fresh and clean, and has that cooling effect.

6. Nothing screams Spring + Summer more than cute birdhouse right? Grab one for your porch, and one for mom too.

7. Summer means eating, drinking and relaxing outside! Even if you have a small space, you can get Summer ready by creating a small outdoor living space. Keep a drink bin ready for outdoor dinners with friends.

8. Get out those Summer pillows! Now is the time to lighten up your pillows and add colorful patterns.

9. Garden stools are the best! You can use them for side tables and extra seating. Try brining one into your living room for that pop of Spring + Summer indoors too.

10. Planters you can use indoors + outdoors! Your entry way is the best place to start when bringing in greenery to your indoor space.

Creating a Kid Friendly Living Space

If you have kids you know how hard it is to dedicate a sophisticated adult space. We love the idea of designing a space that works for everyone. If you don’t have the space to dedicate to an entire play room, and you don’t want to fence off your living space, try creating a kid friendly living room. Here’s a few tips and links to the best products to make your kid friendly space come true.

Seating: Chose furniture that’s easy to clean. Slipcovers are always a good option. Another option for a multifunctional room is to use a daybed or sleeper sofa. That way you always have an extra space for sleepovers, instead of putting your guests in the kids room.

Storage: Instead of having to keep toys out of the room, just find a chic way to store them. Bookcases are perfect because you can use the taller shelves with your decorative items, and still keep toys accessible to kids, but out sight in the lower shelves with pretty bins. And try the storage ottoman table trick for a few years.

Rugs: Area rugs can be lifesavers! Rugs soften a space and can protect your floors from kids. When they get too dirty you can just get them cleaned, flip them over, or just replace the inexpensive ones. Jute rugs are huge right now, and they’re perfect for high traffic areas. If you want something cozier, try a wool rug - which will take wear and repel stains wonderfully.

Quality Furniture: If you have kids, there’s no doubt your couch cushions will end up as building blocks for forts and weapons for pillow fights. And the cheap furniture you might be tempted to buy, will likely end up broken making it not that cheap at all. So it makes sense to buy the best made furniture you can afford, these pieces will last through years of abuse.

Have Fun: Here’s your chance to make the room a little funner. A gallery wall with bright art, and mixed in kid art and photos make a fun display.

5 Decor Essentials to Prove You’re #Adulting

As your space evolves from college leftovers to a pretty curated space that’s more you, it’s easy to get stuck decorating high traffic areas like your living room and dining. But don’t overlook your bedroom, the whole bed on the floor thing is only acceptable in college. Check out these must have items to transform your room into the space you deserve.

1. Headboard: Nothing says first apartment more than an incomplete bed or mattress pushed up against the wall. Step up your style with a headboard or frame, and make the bed the focal point in the room. Most headboards are super easy to attach to a standard bed frame. Adulting tip: get into a routine to make your bed each morning - it takes two minutes and changes the entire mood of the room (and yours!).

2. Nightstand: Perfect for hiding everything you don’t want seen on the table - and here help you stay organized.

3. Storage Piece: Keep your room clean with easy storage solutions that blend in perfectly with your decor. Hide extra bedding or clothing inside an ottoman at the end of your bed, or pick a multi functional storage piece that gives your space some personality.

4. Pillow: Even if this isn’t the first thing on your mind when you're shopping for your space, it’s one of the most important things in your bedroom. Nothing kicks off your day better than a good nights sleep, which depends on a lot of things - including the quality of your pillow.

5. Bedding: Invest in good bedding. Instead of using a random blanket that you got for your birthday a few years ago, get an actual comforter with matching pillowcases and sheets. This will help your bedroom look more put together, and you might even sleep better.
